All city department heads were rehired Tuesday night by the newly elected Mayor and Board of Aldermen including the police and fire chiefs, the city clerk and building official among others.
The board tabled a request by the Mayor to appoint current street foreman Rusty Holley as Street Commissioner. The position had traditionally been filled by an alderman.
Alderman also rehired Robert Thomas as city attorney and Steve Cumberland as city judge, appointed Ward 4 Alderman Cecil Nichols as mayor pro tem and hired Janice Coleman as a deputy city clerk to fill a position soon to be vacated by a retirement.
A group from Goodway Baptist Church appeared before the board asking aldermen to help curtail a spike in recent crime in the area.
The group displayed numerous liquor bottles and beer cans and bottles on a mat, telling aldermen that the items were recently picked up on church property.
