JACKSON – Both Neshoba Central teams advanced to the finals of the Class 5A tournaments in Jackson Tuesday night.

The semifinals and finals are being held at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.

The Neshoba Central Rockets were too much for the Clarksdale Wildcats as they won74-57. Point guard Chayton York led his team with 23 points while Justus Day and Bobby Anderson each added 17 and T.J. Ben scored 13 points.

The Rockets, now 25-4, will play the Laurel Golden Tornadoes in the finals Friday night starting at 8 p.m. Laurel defeated Oxford 67-65 to make it to the finals.

Lady Rockets coach Fred Morris has stressed playing strong defense since he took the job six years ago. It paid off Tuesday as the Neshoba Central girls defeated Lanier 36-32 in the semifinals.

Andria Carter had seven steals and nine rebounds to lead the Lady Rockets. Jasmine Chickaway led the scoring with 11 points.

The Lady Rockets will play West Point for the Girls State 5A championship Friday at 6 p.m. West Point defeated Ridgeland 56-52 in the semifinals on Tuesday.

The two teams met twice during the regular season. The Lady Rockets won by 13 points in their gym, and West Point won by two in their gym.
