Two people were shot dead and a third was injured in a Saturday evening robbery at the CEFCO convenience store on Mississippi 16 west, said Philadelphia police.

The suspect, Robert Leon Jackson, 30, of 224 Manship St., Jackson, is in custody and was also shot possibly by a bystander, police said.

A female cashier and a man in the parking lot were shot dead, but no names have been released.

“He was running around the parking lot with a gun, witnesses said,” according to Philadelphia Police Chief Grant Myers.

Police received a call at about 5:30 p.m. about the shooting and when officers arrived two were dead and, thanks to witnesses, officers were quickly able to locate the suspect near the motels west of the store after he fled on foot.

The suspect was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

Another victim drove himself to the hospital. The severity of their injuries was not immediately known.

The CEFCO store is located next to the McDonalds headed west toward Pearl River Resort.

Police are asking any witnesses to come forward and assist them by calling 601-656-2131.

Philadelphia police were assisted by the Neshoba County Sheriff's Department and Choctaw Police.
